Joanne Slaughter

Joanne Slaughter

Owner/Underwater Photographer

Jo has been an underwater photographer for over 15 years.  She was introduced to the idea of photographing kids underwater when she met Stuart Ireland from Calypso Productions in Cairns. His 30 years experience in underwater photography and videography inspired her to learn the craft and start her own business. Her passion for working with children grew after becoming a mother to Kayla and Sienna. Soon she was photographing her daughters underwater and the positive reaction she received was so overwhelming that she realised there was a growing demand for professional underwater photography in swim schools. Puddle Pics was born.

What I love about working for Puddle Pics is that every day is a new and fun challenge.
I’ve been taking photos for about six years but only started taking it seriously in the last two.
I’ve been swimming since I was a kid.  Growing up, my friends and I would always ride our bikes to the local pool.  I still vividly remember those summers.  Eventually, my family built a pool in the backyard and it become our new local hangout.

I love working in swim schools as It’s a fun environment and the travelling means you get to explore Sydney. I graduated in Photography in 2015 and have worked in modelling studios and landscaping photography. My best child hood memory is being at the beach after a storm and experiencing an orange sunset and two rainbows. I started swimming when I was 5.

Swimming has always been part of Jane’s life – from beach visits and school carnivals as a child to summers in the backyard pool with her grandchildren.

She loves seeing children inspired to swim the best they ever have done – infront of the camera. She has been working with Puddle Pics since April 2018, out of retirement and into the water!

I love working for Puddle Pics because I love being underwater and working with excited smiling children. Watching them go from shy to happy is very rewarding. I started working in photography in 2014 and made it my full time career in 2015. My best childhood memory of being in the water is waking up at 5am each summer morning and swimming with my sister and dad for an hour and then having hash browns for breakfast.

The thing I like most about working for Puddle Pics is the fact that I get to work with children of all different ages and abilities and help kids grow their confidence in the water. I developed an interest in photography when I first learn to scuba dive in 2016. I started swimming when I was 6 months old and my best childhood memory in the water was going out with my family on the Hawkesbury River and jumping off the side of the boat.

I have been working with Puddle Pics since it started in 2011. I love the interaction with the parents and kids. I get to meet such a diverse group of people and travel all over Sydney. I have been swimming since early childhood. We had a beach house growing up and I remember having lessons and my dad teaching me.
